Description

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)  is a specialized agency in the United Nations system, headquartered in Vienna, Austria. The Organization’s primary objective is the promotion and acceleration of industrial development in developing countries and countries with economies in transition and the promotion of international industrial cooperation. UNIDO believes that competitive and environmentally sustainable industry has a crucial role to play in accelerating economic growth, reducing poverty.

In April 2014, UNIDO is organizing a training course on regional trade capacity-building in Warsaw, Poland. The training activities will focus on trade policy issues. Special attention will be given to the following topics:

  • National and regional quality policies (policy framework and institutional setting)
  • Architecture of quality infrastructure (standardization bodies, metrology laboratories, accreditation bodies support, development of competent authorities for exports)
  • Technical barriers to trade/sanitary and phytosanitary (TBT/SPS) agreements and implications
  • Supportive quality infrastructure

Eligibility

This training is targeted at government officials, mid-level trade policy makers, quality management professionals, mid-level policy makers from central and regional bodies, representatives of national think tanks, universities and trade/industry leaders engaged in trade policy and institution development processes.

The call is open for participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Cost

The training will consist of a preliminary four-week e-learning component and an eight-day residential course. Among those who successfully pass the online course, the best-performing 25 participants will be selected and invited for the in-residence course in Warsaw. Accommodation, living expenses and travel will be covered by UNIDO.
