Residence Support Program for Artists in Japan

Description

Akiyoshidai International Art Village (AIAV) invites you to submit a proposal for the international artist residency program, located in YamaguchiJapan and held from 16 January – 11 March 2015 where chosen participants are asked to create a series of workshops, lectures or participatory activities for artists as part of their residency. AIAV designed by the architect, Arata Isozaki, was founded in 1998 with the aim of providing a platform for artists in residence as well as for a variety of art forms and cultural activities.  The Residence Support Program provides a time and place for artists to experience new encounters and carry out experiments to guide their future projects. Participating artists are expected to bring new ideas to the local culture and people while they, in turn, will hopefully acquire new perspectives through these fresh encounters. As a result of the residence program, the artists will convey their new experience, gathered from the local lifestyle and our particular geographic situation, to their next destination.

Eligibility

All artistis under 40 who work on a project related to  “The Features of This Land” and will be able:

  • to participate in all  programs, e.g. open studio, presentations and talks, lectures, exchange programs for local community and educational programs at local schools and universities;
  • to provide images and documentations for publicity and archiving in accordance with AIAV’s request;
  • to present the results of the residence program e.g. exhibitions, reviews or talks outside Japan within a year after the program.

Costs

All chosen artists will have covered:

  • Travel expenses to Japan;
  • Accommodation at AIAV;
  • Per diem: 2,800 yen x days of the program;
  • Studio (assignment will be arranged by AIAV and artists may have to share with others);
  • Production expenses:  200 000 yen.

Application

Submit the application form along with your portfolio – either:

  • 10 still images : jpeg, 72dpi, maximum dimension 1000px, label your images such as (JaneDoe_01.jpg, JaneDoe_02jpg…) so that the number of each image corresponds with the number provided on the slide description sheet on the application form;
  • or video link: Provide a link to a video uploaded on the website such as Youtube, Vimeo. You can only submit 1 video that is no longer than 5 minutes.

+ articles and reviews from catalogues, newspapers and magazines (if you have any in PDF format, up to 3 articles)

Please, put all the materials in 1 folder and compress as a zip file, type subject as “trans_2014-2015 Application” and sent it via email: air_aiav@aiav.jp
