No Hate Speech Movement International Photo Competition

Description

The No Hate Speech Movement is organising an international photo competition dedicated to the European Action Day against Islamphobia and Religious Intolerance on 21 September 2014. Religion has always been an inseparable part of human history, and as much as it unites people, unfortunately it can also be an instrument for hatred and discrimination. The main aim of this competition is to show the importance of religious tolerance as well as appreciation and respect for diversity of religions. You are invited to expand on this topic and express your views on it via your creative ideas in the form of a photograph.

Eligibility

Everyone who falls within either one of the two age group categories; from 13 to 17 years old and from 18 to 30 years old and who has a creative idea for a photo for our competition. Please note that only one photo may be submitted by each contestant.

Awards

The winners in each group will be awarded:

  • First Prize is a cash voucher of €300 and participation in one of our activities at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg or Budapest including travel, board and lodging;
  • Two second Prizes – participation in one of our activities at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg or Budapest including travel, board and lodging;
  • Two third Prizes – special Council of Europe Journalist sets.

Every participant will also receive an official Council of Europe Certificate and campaign T-shirt and materials. At the end of the competition an exhibition of all pictures will be organized in the Council of Europe.

Application

Submit your photo, illustrating the issue of Religious Diversity and Tolerance and  write a supporting paragraph (maximum 420 characters) for your picture to explain the idea behind it and your personal views on the topic (for example, you may want to explain the meaning and the context of the photo or you may feel that have something to say alongside the picture). The preferred languages would be English or French, but also possible in your mother tongue.

Deadline for submitting your photo is 1 September 2014.
