Description

The Interactive Graphics and Simulation Group, which was initiated at ETH Zurich, Switzerland and recently relocated at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, is inviting applications for the position of a PhD student in computer haptics, with application in surgical simulation and robotics.

They are looking for a motivated PhD student with interest and skill in computer haptics, robotics and surgical simulation. The main focus will be on new approaches of providing touch feedback in a medical training system. Both aspects of software as well as hardware will be addressed. There is a possibility for collaboration with an industrial partner in this framework.

The applicant will join a modern and well-equipped research lab, as part of a group that has many years of experience in research related to surgical simulation, computer haptics, augmented reality, and advanced interfaces.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a master’s degree in computer science, mechanical engineering or other related fields;
  • Have good knowledge in computer haptics;
  • Have experience and knowledge in C/C++ programming;
  • Have good level in written and spoken English;

In addition some experience with physically-based simulations and knowledge of virtual/augmented reality will be a plus.

Scholarship

The PhD position is offered on the level of a nonpermanent university research student for four years. The salaries are internationally competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience.
