“Federalism in Europe and the World” – 32nd International Seminar at Ventotene

The “Altiero Spinelli” Institute for Federalist Studies has been organizing an international seminar on the island of Ventotene since 32 years. This island off the Italian coast was the place where Altiero Spinelli, author of the Federalist Ventotene Manifesto, was imprisoned during the Second World War. Each year, young federalists gather here to discuss with leading experts from the European and World Federalist Movement federalist ideas on European and global issues. The seminar is a unique and intensive experience on European and Federalist studies. This year will be held 32nd International Seminar on Federalism – FEDERALISM IN EUROPE AND THE WORLD. Main topics of the seminar are:

  • Human Rights and Peace;
  • European Union and Regional Imbalances;
  • European Union and global economy;
  • Federalism and federalist organizations;

Eligibility

The seminar is opened to all applicants worldwide who are interested in the issues of federalism and federalist organizations. English will be the working language for the international seminar. Participants of some countries may need to apply for a Visa to be admitted to Europe. In this case, participants coming from such countries are requested to specify within application deadline if they need a Visa. In this case, the Institute, while providing the admission confirmation, will send a Visa request letter to the Italian Embassy in charge. This is the only service the Institute will provide and the participant will be fully responsible for obtaining the Visa. ASI will not be responsible for any cost born by the applicant for obtaining the VISA.

Costs

Selected European and non-European participants will receive without any cost, full board and accommodation from the lunch of 30th August to the lunch of 4th September included. A caution of 100 € shall be paid in advance by both European and non-European participants who have been accepted in the seminar in order to confirm their participation. The full amount of 100 € will be returned to each participant at the end of the seminar, provided that they will have attended all sessions. Instructions for providing the transfer will be given in the notice of acceptance. Caution money has to be paid by 5th July.

Participants after having paid the caution money, cannot attend the Seminar, they will be reimbursed only if they inform the ASI before 20th July. No travel reimbursement is provided for European participants, but a scholarship for three non-European participants will be granted, which will consist in the reimbursement of 50% of travel costs up to a maximum reimbursement of 300 €.

The conditions for Italians applying for the international seminar are the same as those of the national seminar (150 € participation fee and 70% travel reimbursement up to a maximum reimbursement of 70 €). The participation fee of 150 € has to be paid by 5th July and no caution fee is requested. Participants, after having paid the participation fee, can’t attend the Seminar, they will be reimbursed only if they inform the ASI before 20th July.
