Alfa Fellowship Program for Journalists

The Alfa Fellowship Program is a development exchange program placing qualified young media professionals in organizations in Russia. It is a distinguished international initiative that each year offers up to 18 accomplished young Americans, Britons, and Germans the opportunity to complete a high-level professional development program in Russia. Its goal is to develop greater intercultural understanding and advance U.S.-Russian, U.K.-Russian and German-Russian relations. The next program will run from March 2017 to April 2018 and includes intensive Russian language training, seminar series and extended professional experience. 


  • Candidates must be U.S., U.K. or German citizens;
  • Russian language proficiency is preferred but not required;
  • Journalists must have at least two years of experience if they have a graduate degree or six years of journalism experience if they don’t.


Fellows will receive a monthly stipend, all program related-travel costs, free housing and insurance.
