Since 1999, the Institute for Minority Rights of Eurac Research has been organizing a Summer School on Human Rights, Minorities and Diversity Governance. The two-week postgraduate programme welcomes an international audience: young researchers and academics, post-docs and post-graduate students, civil servants from local, regional or national governments as well as employees of international organizations or NGOs. The Summer School follows an interactive approach and explores human rights, minority rights and diversity governance from an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective.

The 2020 edition of Eurac Research’s Summer School on Human Rights, Minorities and Diversity Governance focuses on “Linguistic and Religious Diversity” and examines the challenge of diversity governance by combining theoretical expertise and relevant case studies from Europe, Asia and Americas.

The 2020 Summer School takes place from 22 June – 3 July 2020 at Eurac Research in Bolzano/Bozen (South Tyrol, Italy).

Eurac Research’s Summer School on Human Rights, Minorities and Diversity Governance is an interdisciplinary, two-week program for all those interested in minority rights and diversity governance. The 2020 edition explores the theme of “Linguistic and Religious Diversity” by examining the challenge and opportunities of diversity through theoretical and empirical perspectives from Europe, Asia and Americas. In seminars and workshops led by international experts, participants will critically engage with topics including religion and gender, radicalization, multilingualism, language and intercultural competences, and minority protection mechanisms in Europe and beyond. Field trips in South Tyrol will provide opportunities to gain first-hand experiences of local approaches to minority protection and diversity governance.

Eligibility

The Summer School is designed for those who wish to upgrade their knowledge of minority protection and diversity governance through an interdisciplinary and comparative approach, including:

  • MA and PhD students;
  • post-docs and young researchers and academics;
  • civil servants from local, regional or national governments;
  • employees of international organisations or NGOs.

Benefits

  • Tuition fee: The tuition fee for the two-week Summer School is EUR 400. This fee covers: course materials, guided tours in Bolzano/Bozen, access to the library of Eurac Research, internet access, weekday lunches (Mon-Fri). The fee does not cover: accommodation, meals (except weekday lunches), travel costs and other expenses not listed above.
  • Scholarships: They offer full scholarships (tuition fee waiver and free accommodation in a 4 bed-room at the Youth Hostel in Bolzano/Bozen) and partial scholarships (no tuition fee). Selection is based on merit and need.
  • Cancellation policy: Cancellation until 15 May 2020: 90% of the tuition fee will be refunded, minus any additional incurred costs (e.g. visa letter). Cancellations from 15 May-15 June: 50% of the tuition fee will be refunded, minus any additional incurred costs (e.g. visa letter). Cancellations after 15 June: no refunds. This cancellation policy will be applied also to scholarship holders.
