Description

The European Youth Press is looking for 13 young motivated journalists (9 facilitators + 4 organisers) to become part of the team that will organise the 2018 edition of the European Youth Media Days (EYMD), one of the biggest events for young media makers in Europe. Team members will facilitate nine media workshops and/or will assist participants and the organisers in external communication, guidance of participants, and logistical preparations during the three days.

The workshops are:

Print-Infographic (Facilitator: Graphic Designer)

The project of this workshop is to create some visually attractive stories for a magazine. The team should either create infographics telling a story, or an article text with additional graphics to illustrate the story. If needed, they can also collaborate with the photographers of the second team.

Print-Photography (Facilitator: Writing Specialised Journalist)

The project of this workshop is to write a feature/story for a magazine with one or more photographs. The team will need to work together with photographers to find the most appropriate photo to illustrate the piece.

Photo Report (Facilitator: Photographer)

The photographers should present a common project: a photo report with a maximum 15 photos, with common thread and a narrative (title and some short explanations to accompany the photos).

Radio Programme (Facilitator: Radio Specialised Journalist)

The project should result in a radio programme which could be approx. 5-20 min. This is shareable after the event. The participants in this group will be able to use the audio-visual facilities of the European Parliament. They should combine different radio technics (e.g. interviews and reporting).

Video I (Facilitator: TV Specialised Journalist)

The project should result in a TV programme with additional graphics such as an intro, outro and name titles. Participants can choose the format: a late night show, debate, interview programme, television news, etc. If needed, they can also collaborate with the graphic designers from the infographic workshop to make the TV programme more dynamic.

Video II (Facilitator: Video Specialised Journalist)

This team will make short, up to 1:30 minutes, attractive videos. The videos should be witty, with shocking, exciting and surprising facts and graphics. The goal is that the videos are easily shareable on Social Media. This kind of videos are very popular and done by media organisations to attract young public. For example here.

Multimedia (Facilitator: Media Campaign Specialised Journalist)

Focus: Online campaign. Participants should pick one topic within the overall topic of communicating elections, and plan and produce a social media campaign in line with the existing one. This online campaign is not for a politician or a political party, but has an informative aim for the audience. It includes strong visuals, such as templates, graphics and photos. In the workshop the participants decide on the appropriate channels to use and the target group(s), to hypothetically maximise the result of the campaign.

Social Media I (Facilitator: Social Media Specialised Journalist)

Focus: Social Media Campaign. Participants will make audio-visual stories and/or graphical materials for sharing on social media. These are materials that media organisations would make and share themselves on social media as well. They will use new forms of social media storytelling and use different new media formats to make the outcome attractive and interactive. The format of the output will correspond to the social media requirements (short length, catchy content, accompanied by subtitles), so it will be easily distributed on new media and catch the attention of a young audience.

Social Media II (Facilitator: Social Media Specialised Journalist)

Focus: Misinformation. Participants of the second group will create audiovisual stories/graphical materials for sharing on social media. It is meant for informing young people about misinformation. These are materials that media organisations would make and share of social media storytelling and use different new media formats to make the outcome more attractive and interactive. The format of the output will correspond to the social media requirements (short length, catchy content, accompanied by subtitles), so it will be easily distributed on new media and catch the attention of a young audience.

European Youth Media Days 2018 (organised by the European Parliament in collaboration with the European Youth Press – Network of Young Media Makers) will take place in the European Parliament in Brussels on 16 – 18 October 2018. Up to 120 young journalists aged between 18 and 30 will have the chance to report from inside the European Parliament on current issues relating to the upcoming European Elections in May 2019.

The topic How to inform young voters on European Elections will be addressed in workshops with professional journalists and experts as well in two panel discussions with Members of the European Parliament, representatives of socio-political sphere in Belgium and other high-ranking guests.
