Facebook, Twitter and Co. are centralised platforms that are owned by private corporations and that control the respective networks unilaterally. An international project financed by EU-H2020, in which UIST is a crucial partner, aims to create a decentralized social media ecosystem using blockchain technology, therefore democratizing the social media platforms.

The project will run for 36 months from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021. The main aim of the project is to achieve a major breakthrough in transparent, decentralised infrastructure creation for social media networks with anonymous trusted participation and democratic decision-making based on modern blockchain, P2P, and elastic cloud edge-based technologies.

This Call is addressed to candidates wishing to give their career a boost by contributing to the ambitious activities of the ARTCONF project, to publications in high-impact journals and conferences, and by networking with European experts in the field. For the purposes of the respective EU-H2020 project, University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle” – Ohrid is searching for highly motivated candidates in the field of Computer Science.

Selected candidates will mostly contribute to the development and implementation of tools for analytics and cognition and in the analysis of the collected dataset. In addition, they will aggregate contextualized data over spatial-temporal boundaries based on socio-cultural abstraction and extracting knowledge, cognitive learning about users’ behavior, and risk quantification for business markets.

The work is carried out in the University premises at the University of Information Science and Technology St. Paul the Apostle, Ohrid, 6000, Macedonia.

Eligibility

I – Research Associate

The candidates should have expertise in the following fields:

  1. Collecting, analyzing, and doing research, assessments, and predictions based on large amounts of social media data.
  2. Good programming knowledge in either Java, Python or JavaScript;
  3. Knowledge in distributed computing systems;
  4. Experience with data aggregation and data analysis;
  5. Social and communicative competences and ability to work in a team;
  6. Motivation to work in an international team of researchers and industry specialist;
  7. Excellent English skills, both in written and oral form.

II – Software Developer

  1. The candidates should have expertise in the following fields:
  2. Good programming knowledge in either HTML, Java, Python or JavaScript;
  3. Knowledge and ability for technical specifications and solutions, develop reports, dashboards, interactive mobile/Web GUI and metrics to provide accurate and timely information;
  4. Experience with distributed storage systems and data analysis;
  5. Social and communicative competences and ability to work in a team;
  6. Motivation to work in an international team of researchers and industry specialist;
  7. Excellent English skills, both in written and oral form.
