The Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program

DESCRIPTION

For over 20 years now, the Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program has been supporting individual development of young, ambitious and active citizens of selected states in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The goal of the Program is to share the Polish experience of political transformation and integration with the European Union. The group of over 900 alumni of the Program includes members of governments, MPs, managerial staff of large multinationals, heads of local authorities and well-known social activists.

The Program offers 2 terms of studies on Polish universities as well as 2-week internships in state or private institutions. Potential candidates are persons who have resolved that following the completion of the scholarship, they want to return to their home country in order to implement the knowledge gained during the scholarship or a project prepared as part of it.

ELIGIBILITY

You must:

  • have citizenship and permanent residence in one of the countries covered by the Kirkland Research Program: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, or Uzbekistan;
  • be under 45 years of age;
  • have experience in research and scientific work – minimum 4 years;
  • have at least two years break from participation in any previous scholarship abroad that was longer than 6 months;
  • have scientific achievements, including publications;
  • have a knowledge of Polish or English at minimum B2 level. (In the case of having English at B2 level, Polish must be at least at A1 level)

Fields of study available to the grantees of the Kirkland Program and the Kirkland Research Program:

  • Economics and Management
  • Administration / Management (i.e. business, NGOs, culture, education, or healthcare)
  • Public Administration (Central or Local Government Administration)
  • Law
  • Social Sciences (Social Psychology, Sociology)
  • Political Science and International Relations
  • Environmental and Climate Protection
  • Security and Cybersecurity
  • Crisis Management
  • Development Policy and Humanitarian Aid

BENEFITS

Under the Kirkland Research Program, the following benefits are offered:

  • the opportunity to conduct studies and prepare a scientific paper under supervision of experienced scientific employees of one of 5 academic centers in Poland (Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań, Lublin)
  • a scholarship of PLN 8,800 paid in 4 installments

Moreover, the Program Administrator provides the following services (the total amount of which is about PLN 4,500 a month):

  • accommodation in Poland for the period of 4 months
  • participation in orientation program as well as 2 workshop and integration conventions for grantees
  • purchase of learning materials and aids
  • health insurance, civil liability insurance and private medical insurance
  • public transportation fares
  • possibility of co-financing participation in conferences and purchase of equipment needed to write a scientific article
  • costs of return travel to Poland (up to agreed caps)
  • a Polish language course (in the period from October to January)
  • visa costs
