Description

In 2013, Vienna-based Henkel Central Eastern Europe (Henkel CEE) announces – for the twelfth time – its call for entries for the Henkel Art.Award. for Central and Eastern Europe.

The partners for this project are KulturKontakt Austria and the “museum moderner kunst stiftung ludwig wien” (Museum of Modern Art – mumok) in Vienna. On the basis of the cooperation with mumok, the winner of the Henkel Art.Award. not only receives a monetary prize of 7,000 euros and an exhibition in the artist’s native country, but is also given the great opportunity to display his or her works of art at an individual exhibition in mumok held in the following year, accompanied by the publication of an exhibition catalogue.

Without prescribing any pre-defined themes, the Henkel Art.Award. bestows prizes for outstanding and innovative works of art created by visual artists in Central and Eastern Europe in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, video and installation. The winner is chosen from the submitted entries within the context of a multi-phased selection process.

Numerous Henkel Art.Award. finalists or winners in recent years were subsequently invited to international exhibitions and have enjoyed international success. These include Dan Perjovschi (2002), Miha Strukelj (2008) and Mladen Miljanovic (2009) and many more.

Eligibility

Entries from the following countries will be accepted: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and the Ukraine.

Age limit: 40 (the artist may not have reached his or her 40th birthday at the time of the gala award ceremony held in Austria December 2013)

All works of art must have originated after the year 2010.

Application

All entries to the Henkel Art.Award. 2013 must be submitted by June 7, 2013 at the latest (date of postmark) directly to the Henkel address in the respective country (see list of contact information HERE). Candidates must submit the following materials:

  • Curriculum vitae and description of artistic career (in English or German)
  • 3-5 reproductions of works of art: No originals! These should be (1) Artwork in the fields of painting, drawing, photography: reproductions in the form of photos, folders and/or catalogues (format: maximum A3). No slides, CDs or DVDs; or (2) Artwork in the fields of video and installation: entries are to be submitted in the form of video DVDs (maximum duration of presentation: 10 minutes).

The entries will first be presented to a local jury in the middle of June 2013. The best work of art for a particular country will be sent to Vienna, where an international jury meeting in the summer of 2013 will nominate the five finalists (so-called short list) and choose the award winner. Subsequently, the selected artists on the short list will be notified about their nomination and informed by Henkel CEE about their invitation to the Henkel Art.Award. Gala 2013.

Within the context of the official gala award ceremony, the Henkel Art.Award. will be given to one of the five artists nominated as finalists. The submitted works of art will be returned to the respective artists after the jury session.

Please note: No fees will be paid to the artists for participating in the competition! No liability can be assumed for any loss of or damage to the submitted works of art.
