Future of Reporting Europe Workshop, Berlin

Deadline: 31 August 2013
Open to: participants aged 18-30 from all Council of Europe states who have journalistic or media experience
Venue: 7-10 November 2013 in Berlin, Germany

Description

What is the future of journalism in an increasingly interconnected world? Which perspective should journalists take when the sovereignty of nation-states is being renegotiated while their audience is still mostly national? How to report on European issues from a transnational angle? Does the new 2.0 reality offer us better information or just more spam to dig through? Join a group of young journalists in Berlin from the 7th to the 10th of November to answer these questions together.

“The future of reporting Europe” will bring together 22 young aspiring journalists and media makers from across the continent between the 7th and 10th of November 2013 in Berlin to discuss a transnational approach to reporting. The workshop will explore ways of collaborating across the continent in order to equip participants with the essential skills to become print and web journalists of the future. The workshop will help young journalists and editors with an interest in Europe to establish a network which will enable them to continue their trans-national collaboration beyond the time spent in Berlin.

The workshop aims to:

  • train participants in reporting on European issues from a transnational rather than a national perspective
  • educate participants in linking practical reporting and web 2.0 journalism skills with an ongoing discussion on how to write about Europe transnationally
  • better equip young aspiring journalists to deal with the demands of reporting to a European audience in a thoughtful, independent-minded way
  • strengthen networks between young journalists from different European countries

The workshop will include specific training sessions, reporting sessions from Berlin, daily blogging and social media as well as an editorial forum for a print magazine to be published by E&M. This project is organised by Europe & Me Magazine, together with the legal association, Europa neuer Ideen e.V.  The project is financed with support from the Allianz Cultural Foundation – Allianz Kulturstiftung.
