“The Edge” Cheap Street Poster Art Festival

Deadline: 11 April 2016
Open to: street artists, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators and visual artists
Award: the selected projects will be printed and hung up in specific parts of the city of Bologna for the duration of the Festival

Description

This year, Cheap invites artists to explore the idea of “edge” through images: the edge understood as not only a geographical boundary between countries, but also as the utmost horizon above and below which we act, experience emotions, erect obstacles and build possibilities for change. Cheap on Board project effectively coincides with the frame of each notice board where we display the work of the artists selected through the Open Call; it also coincides with the changeable meaning acquired by each individual poster on being inserted into this shared frame.

The focus of this year’s call seeks to encourage movement in two directions, both cognitive and experiential: on one hand, a move to reject the idea of borders as a means of dividing populations; on the other hand, a move to consider the edge as a strategic point of observation for locating unexpected connections, following improbable paths and pushing ourselves to imagine new, multi-cultural forms of sociality and coexistence.
