Would you like to be a participant in an exciting International Training Course and Conference that will help you to gain expertise on Internet Governance? Now you have a chance to take part in New Media Summer School: The Web of Tomorrow is Yours! Youth Think Thank on Internet Governance prior to the EuroDIG organized by YEU International, JEF, AEGEE, EYP, FYEG and European Youth Forum, held in Stokholm, Sweden.

The event aims to develop young people’s competences on internet governance issues, make the voice of young people heard and provide them a chance to participate in debates on web policy.

Eligibility

Applicants from the following countries are eligible to participate in the event: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Turkey, FYROM/Macedonia, Switzerland, Russian Federation, Tunisia, Egypt

What is more, you should be an outspoken and active young person between 18 and 30 from any country in Europe who has a passion and interest in issues surrounding policy, regulation and governance of the Internet. Previous knowledge of and experience in these subjects is highly desirable.

It is crucial that you are an outspoken person. They will need you to actively participate not only in the New Media Summer School, but also in EuroDIG, where you’ll represent European youth towards other stakeholders. Obviously, they’d love to see you lobby those government people into adopting your policy ideas!
What is also expected is a commitment to stay actively involved in youth efforts to influence Internet and New Media policy making processes within your country and on a European level. Of course, they’ll also ask you to spread whatever knowledge you gain in your network.
The maximum number of participants is 32. Should they receive more applications than can be accepted, they will of course assure a balance in terms of origin, gender and age in the participants, maximizing the diversity of perspectives and opinions.
The deadline for the application is May 1st, 2011. The organizing team of the New Media Summer School will select participants by May 7th at the latest.

Venue

The Summer School will be held in Stockhol, Sweden between 11th June to 16th June2012 (excluding travel days). YEU International will cover all costs related to accommodation, and 70% of travel costs (cheapest way) from the resident country. An enrolment fee is payable by each participant in order to support the overall budget of the event. It will be deducted from the amount to be reimbursed for travel costs. 100% of visa costs will be reimbursed.

      I believe that the country of origin must be one of the listed in the above post, no matter if you are currently a resident of another. If you want to make sure if you are eligible or not, please try to contact the organizers and ask.

      Seeing as we are not the organizers of the Summer school, we cannot say for sure if you will be notified today of the success of your application, but as it says in the post above "The organizing team of the New Media Summer School will select participants by May 7th at the latest." So I am sure that selected participants will be notified by the end of the day at the latest.
