Mitrovica Winter University

Open to: approximately 150 students can participate:  90 local students, 35 students from South East Europe and 25 from EU and beyond
Venue: Mitrovica,  from the 21st of January till the 1st of February 2013

University and the Student Parliament with the support of SPARK will organize the Mitrovica Winter University 2013. This program which brings together local and international professors and students will provide trainings to students and integrate them in regional and international academic and student networks. The Mitrovica Winter University 2013 (MWU) will be held in Mitrovica from the 21st of January till the 1st of February 2013. Approximately 150 students can participate:  90 local students, 35 students from South East Europe and 25 from EU and beyond.

Topics

MWU 2013 offers 6 intensive academic courses of 2 weeks taught by international professors together with local professors. The courses will be cover different fields such as political, social, medicine, environment, economical science, art and information technologies. All courses will be taught in English, though some courses will be translated into Serbian.

The following courses will take place during the MWU 2013:

  1. EU Enlargement and Migration
  2. Emergency Medical Conditions
  3. E–Marketing
  4. Contemporary European Film and Production
  5. Business Psychology and Management
  6. Green Architecture and Urban Design

Selection criteria

The following selection criteria apply to local students:

  • Enrolment: To participate in MWU, you have to currently be studying locally;
  • Course relevance: Students are only admitted to a course that is relevant to their studies at their home university, i.e. a course that fits into their study field;
  •  English language proficiency: English is the teaching language at the MWU. All applicants who fulfil the selection criteria must pass an English test. The test will be organised after the application procedure in order to have a fair selection for participation in the MWU. The testing will be conducted on 3rd of December 2012.
  •  Grades: Students will have to indicate their grades on the application form.

The following selection criteria apply to all other students:

  •  Course relevance: Students are only admitted to a course that is relevant to their studies at their home university, i.e. a course that fits into their study path;
  • English language proficiency: When applying, you will be asked to give an indication of your level of understanding of the English language. Please answer this question honestly. Note that the teaching language at the MWU will be English only (only for some courses translation into Serbian will be provided).
  • Motivation letter: Students should write a motivation letter to be attached to the application form.

Costs

  • Lectures and classes are tuition free for all students. Participants who study in Mitrovica and in South East Europe countries (please refer to the MWU 13 Information Guide for Participants for SEE list) can apply for a scholarship, which covers accommodation and food. In addition, they will receive a one-time stipend covering their travel costs.
  • International students from Western Europe and beyond have to cover their travel’s costs, accommodation and food; however they will not be charged for the tuition fee. For these participants, accommodation and food is provided at a modest price for the entire duration of the MWU.

Scholarships

Two categories of scholarships are available at the MWU:

  1. Scholarships for participants, who study in Mitrovica, but live outside Mitrovica: covers your accommodation and food during MWU. In addition, participants studying locally who live outside Mitrovica will receive a one-time travel stipend covering the cost of return bus ticket from and to their home.
  2. Scholarship for students from SEE countries:a travel stipend ( Euro 30 – 100, depends on the country). They will be accommodated free of charge and they will either receive full board or an allowance

Scholarship students must attend at least 80% of their classes.

25 participants from other countries than those listed above are welcome to participate but have to cover the cost of participation, i.e. travel, accommodation and food, themselves. However, they will not be charged a tuition fee. For these participants, accommodation is provided at a modest price for the entire duration of the MWU.

How to apply?

  • You can apply online
  • When applying, you will be asked to fill out a detailed registration form providing with your personal contact information, details on your academic background, as well as which courses you would like to apply for. You can select up to three courses, indicating your order of preference. However, you will be accepted for only one course.
  • You will be informed via email about the status of your application. You will receive a personal ID and password, which enables you to view your application status at any time via Internet and update your profile, if necessary, until the application deadline.
  • The deadline for applications is 1st December, 2012
