Wipe Out Hate! UNITED Conference in Prague

Deadline: 5 September, 2013
Open to: participants who represent (inter)national antiracist, antifascist, refugee, human rights and minority rights organisations, coming from Council of Europe countries
Venue: 25 – 30 October 2013, Prague, Czech Republic

Description

UNITED is the largest pan-European anti-racist network of more than 550 organisations. With its conferences antiracist and human rights activists from all parts of Europe meet and discuss effective ways of combating racism and discrimination.

Currently, Europe is facing the growing success of populist and extremist right-wing movements. Using people’s prejudices, concerns and fears in time of crisis, right-wing populists and extreme-right groups are succeeding in most European countries with exclusionist slogans and simple “solutions”.

The conference ‘Wipe Out Hate – UNITED in Solidarity’ will take place near Prague (Czech Republic) and will be held on 25 – 30 October 2013. The aim of the conference is to create a platform to share practical methods to provide counter-arguments to populist discourse; discover and share methods to prevent hate speech and hate crimes; and find campaigning strategies to put equality and solidarity at the centre of political discourse(s) in Europe.

The conference program will combine debates, workshops, sharing of experiences and local situations, simulations, political cafes and many other methods for learning from practical experience. View the program of the conference here.

Eligibility

The conference will host 80 participants, living in the countries of the Council of Europe, who represent (inter)national antiracist, antifascist, refugee, human rights and minority rights organisations. Active grass-roots groups from all over Europe are also invited. Priority will be given to nominations from young delegates (under 30 years old) with a minority background.
