The Journalist to Journalist Lung Health Media Training is six day fellowship for health journalists of the National Press Foundation and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. The training is designed for working journalists who want to increase their knowledge and skills at developing stories on lung health and related issues, including tuberculosis, TB/HIV, asthma, COPD, diabetes and tobacco control. Journalists will hear presentations from experts on these diseases, the extent and impact of the problems they present (including social, political and economic impacts) and new research, solutions and innovations in the pipeline. The sessions also include practical training in turning scientific information into effective web, print and broadcast stories. The 6th annual program is a three-day intensive training followed by full access to the 45th Union World Conference on Lung Health – the premier international gathering of lung health researchers and others.
All applicants must be working journalists with at least three years experience covering health issues in any medium.
Special, but not exclusive attention will be given to applications from journalists in low- and middle-income countries, along with China, India, Russia and South Africa.
All sessions will be in English, so proficient spoken and written English are essential.
Conference registration, travel costs, hotel accommodation and per diem expenses will be covered for chosen fellows.
If you are interested to participate, you should fill in the online application with your personal data, motivation letter, narrative biography, upload two recent samples of your work (from within the last year) and letter of support from an editor or supervisor (if you are a freelancer, a letter from someone you have worked with in the past and who is familiar with your work.)
The deadline for applications is 18 July 2014, 05:00 p.m. EST.
