BorderLab. Borderland Experiences: Conflict, Dialogue, and the Arts

Description

Viadrinicum is an annual summer school devoted to the countries of the Eastern Partnership region with a special focus on Ukraine. This year it will take place in the form of BorderLab, aiming to tackle the issues of borders and borderland regions from multiple theoretical and methodological perspectives. With a strong emphasis on the participatory element of educational process the school will allow its participants to deepen their knowledge about borderland studies and enhance their practical and methodological skills in the framework of several project-oriented workshops.

Besides the academic part, participants of the school will also be able to develop their own small projects in the framework of three workshops (Border.Doc, Border.Art, Border.Media) under the close guidance of professional experts from the field of documentary filmmaking, art, and journalism. During the two weeks, non-Ukrainian participants will have the opportunity to improve their Ukrainian language skills in classes of various levels while Ukrainian participants can attend a German language class. Furthermore, there will be film screenings, public discussions, and an Open Space where participants will have the chance to discuss their own scientific or cultural projects with other participants and scholars.

Eligibility

Students, Ph.D. candidates and young NGO activists (up to 35 years of age) from all fields are invited to apply.

Costs

Thanks to the support of the German Federal Foreign Office, European University Viadrina can fund up to 20 travel scholarships for students, Ph.D. candidates and young NGO activists up to 35 years old (150-700 EUR, depending on your country of residence).

You can apply for a scholarship if you meet the following requirements:

  • You are a student, a Ph.D. candidate or a young activist, working for an NGO;
  • You have a genuine interest in questions concerning border problematics;
  • Your knowledge of English is sufficient to take an active part in the discussions.
